Robin Whitley,(She, hers)
Robin Whitley, a native of Wilmington, Delaware is a 1994 graduate of North Carolina State University, BS in Biology. She has over thirty years experience in environmental science with a concentration in drinking water. Robin’s current position is a Water Quality Analyst with the City of Suffolk, Public Utilities. She is a community activist and strong advocate for African Americans, women and children. She proudly serves on several organizations and in leadership positions both with her employer and in the community. She is the Public Utility Department representative for the City of Suffolk’s DEI-B committee, United Way and the Great Suffolk Cleanup. Her work in professional organizations include the Virginia Section of the American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) DEI-B Community Engagement and Environmental Justice Workstream Leader, and the Virginia Water Environment Association’s liaison to the Student Activities Committee.
Robin’s role in other organizations include, leader and founding member of the Western Tidewater Unit of the LWV-SHR, Virginia Organizing, Nansemond Suffolk NAACP, Charter Member VA National Women's Political Caucus(NWPC), Hampton Roads Area Leader for Black Women’s Roundtable ( BWR-VA),and member of NCNW. Robin is also a proud and active member of the Suffolk Virginia Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where she has held appointed and leadership positions as well as chairperson of several committees. Currently, she is the co-chair of the Social Action Committee. Robin has accumulated several accolades for her work in community and social justice. She has been awarded as Community Leader of the year from the Nansemond Suffolk NAACP, Dr.Martin Luther King,Jr Community Leadership Award from the S. Delois Mayes Scholarship Foundation, the Community Hero Award from The Suffolk Democratic Committee, the Black Women's Roundtable and multiple awards for leadership and advocacy from her sorority including the Dorothy Height, South Atlantic Regional Award for Social Action!
Robin has a passion to serve and mentor young people and contributes her time and skills to her beloved First Baptist Church Mahan, under the direction of her Pastor Dr. Steven G. Blunt. She currently serves on the 112 Youth Ministry, Events Team, writes for the Newsletter and is the leader of the Social Justice Ministry.
In her free time, Robin enjoys binge watching movies, trying out new restaurants as well as wine tasting and collecting pins and brooches. She is the wife to her greatest love, Dr. Thomas A Whitley and mom to Garrett(26) and Kamryn (22).
